   Ryan retires from the CIA at the end of the book. This doesn't happen.
   President Fowler's decision to attack Russia and Iran is heavily motivated by the advice of his national security adviser. President Fowler largely makes his own decisions regarding attacking Russia.
   President Fowler was elected after his unnamed predecessor (who was of the opposite party) deliberately threw the election at the conclusion of Clear and Present Danger. President Fowler was seemingly elected on a platform of a more peaceful, gentler world.
   The book takes place in the early 1990s before the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The movie takes place in 2002.
   The farmer who finds the bomb in his field asks his son to remove it. His son gives it to the terrorists. The farmer who finds the bomb in his field sells it to a scrap dealer, who sells it to Dressler.
