This Spoils the Ending
In the Book In the Movie
Ryan and Cathy do not meet SPINNAKER. SPINNAKER meets Ryan and Cathy at the end of the film.
Ryan is afraid of flying, although he reluctantly does so for business. Ryan does not appear to have any fear of flying, and he pilots a helicopter in the end.
Ryan is an outsider to the President's security team because he is not a political appointee and because much of the President's cabinet dislike him. Ryan is an outsider to the President's security team because he is too junior to even be on their radar.
This doesn't happen. Ryan, on his way to Russia, calls Cathy to tell her that he can't make their date because of his work with the CIA. She doesn't believe him.
This never happened; Ryan graduated long before Normanov took power. Ryan wrote a college paper on Nemerov, which Nemerov had read.
