   The book takes place in the early 1990s before the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The movie takes place in 2002.
   The farmer who finds the bomb in his field asks his son to remove it. His son gives it to the terrorists. The farmer who finds the bomb in his field sells it to a scrap dealer, who sells it to Dressler.
   American and Soviet soldiers attack each other in Berlin. (Note: at the time of the book's writing, Germany had been reunified but Russian soldiers would remain in Germany until 1994.) There is no US-Soviet battle in Berlin. (Note: The film takes place in 2002, eight years after the last Russian troops left Germany.)
   Gunther Bock, a rogue German terrorist, is a former East-German Communist. He works alongside other German, Arab, and American Indian terrorists. Richard Dressler, a rogue German terrorist, is a neo-Nazi who works with fellow neo-Nazis.
   Cabot has little trouble with the President's national security team. Cabot is mocked by the President's national security team during a briefing.
