   SPINNAKER hints that Normanov may have lost control of the military. SPINNAKER makes no such claim.
   Washington Post journalist Bob Holtzman spies on Ryan to try to leak an alleged affair. When it's found out that there is no affair, he backs off. This doesn't happen.
   The President, National Security Advisor, and Director of Central Intelligence all dislike Ryan for political or personal reasons and look for excuses to fire him. The President and National Security Advisor do not like Ryan because they believe he is an apologist for Nemerov; the Director of Central Intelligence likes Ryan.
   Ryan has an antagonistic relationship with Cathy's parents. Ryan does not meet Cathy's parents.
   Charles Alden, President Fowler's initial National Security Adviser, dies from an aneurysm following a sex scandal. Elizabeth Elliot replaces him. Gene Renevall remains President Fowler's National Security Adviser the whole time.
