   John Clark has worked previously with Ryan. The two regard each other with professional respect and admiration. John Clark meets Ryan for the first time, and treats him like a kid.
   The man who removes the bomb from the farmer's yard is the farmer's son, who does it for free. The man who removes the bomb from the farmer's yard is the scrap collector, who buys it.
   General Secretary Normanov has been in power for several years and has appeared in previous books. President Nemerov recently came to power after the death of his predecessor.
   Cathy is well aware of Ryan's position in the CIA, having been married to him for decades and indirectly involved with the work he did there. Cathy doesn't discover that Ryan works for the CIA until the end of the movie.
