Reacher goes to meet Duffy and Villanueva after he murders Duke and burned down the DEA safehouse. Duffy does not approve of his actions. Duffy shows Reacher video footage of Quinn (Xavier). |

Reacher has a weapons stash, including Duffy’s pistol, hidden in the rocks near the house. It is missing the day after Duke is killed. Later that day Elizabth tells Recher that she no longer thinks he is police. She says her husband’s boss found out there was an agent among them and they are dealing with her now. Reacher thinks she is talking about Teresa Daniel. |

After Reacher is promoted to head of security, he talks to Paulie and says the house is his responsibility and Elizabeth Beck is off limits to Paulie. Paulie agrees. |

The agent that they caught was the Irish maid. She was tortured to death; her breasts were cut off. Her body was brought to Beck’s estate where Reacher helped dispose of her body in the ocean while the tide was going out. The maid was caught when they found Reacher’s weapons in the car she used for running errands. Duffy’s Glock was traced to a government purchase. The maid blamed Reacher. They did not believe her after they found a communication device in her shoe. |
The maid is French. Quinn tells Beck to search all of the employees at his estate and their rooms to see if there is another spy. They find the maid’s cell phone, she died when Paulie beat her too hard while interrogating her in Beck’s barn. After disposing of the maid’s body, Reacher calls Duffy and tells her that the maid was an ATF agent and the Beck is running guns.

Reacher argues with Duffy about the “other agent” that was killed. Duffy denies there was another DEA agent at Becks. Duffy alters the mission as she only wants to concentrate on getting Agent Daniel back. She is no longer interested in Beck or Quinn. Reacher still wants to get Quinn. |
Duffy admits that she did not pay Teresa Daniel to go overcover; she coerced her with the threat of a prison sentence. |
