Inigo Montoya's father refuses to sell because the Six Fingered Man insults the quality of the sword. He refuses to sell because he offers to low a sum of money.
Miracle Max makes Fezzik and Inigo go on a series of quests to obtain the ingredients for the resurrection pill. He makes it without them leaving his place.
Goldman asks his father if the story has any sports in it. He replies, "Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Poison. True love. Hate. Revenge. Giants. Hunters. Bad men. Good men. Beautifulest ladies. Snakes. Spiders. Beasts of all natures and descriptions. Pain. Death. Brave men. Coward men. Strongest men. Chases. Escapes. Lies. Truths. Passion. Miracles. When asked about sports. The grandfather replies, "Are you kidding? Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Revenge. Giants. Monsters. Chases. Escapes. True love. Miracles."
Over the course of a month, the father reads the story to his son twice. The grandfather reads the entire story in one day.
Goldman is a big part of the framing story. He talks about how the book changed his life and made him into an avid reader. He gets the book for his son, but the son hates it. Goldman had only been told the story and when he read it, he found his father had left out the boring parts. So he creates an abridged version of the book. The frame story is limited to the grandfather reading the book to his sick grandson.
The Count and Countess Rugen come to Buttercup's farm. They want to ask about their Cows. The Count sees that Buttercup is very beautiful. The Countess asks Westley to show her how he feeds the Cows. Later, Buttercup focuses on how the Countess looked at Westley, and she becomes jealous. She goes to Westley's hovel the next morning and professes her love for him. He slammed the door in her face. He goes to her room the next day and tells her that he must leave to make his fortune because he does love her. The Count and Countess never go to the farm. Buttercup just realizes that when Westely said As you wish, he really meant I love you. And she falls in love with him. He then decides he must leave to make his fortune.
Just before Westly leaves to seek his fortune he and Buttercup shake hands, she says, "Without one kiss?" They kiss. Goldman then describes how there have been five great kisses but this kiss left them all behind. Westly and Buttercup kiss passionately before he leaves. They do not shake. At the end of the story when Westley has rescued Buttercup from Humperdink, they kiss again, and the Grandfather uses the five kisses line. That is how he ends the story.
Prince Humperdinck was close to 250 pounds and was shaped like a barrel. He was an average man.
Prince Humperdinck plans to marry Princess Noreena of Gilder. He invites her to visit, and a gust of wind blows her hat off revealing her bald head. He kicks her out and puts the two nations on the verge of war. This doesn't happen.
Prince Humperdinck loves hunting above all else. He creates the Zoo of Death on the castle's grounds. It is a five level underground zoo where he keeps all kinds of dangerous animals so he can select one and kill it every day. Buttercup mentions that Humperdinck is a great hunter. There is no mention of the Zoo of Death.
Buttercup is presented to the public. She wants to go into the crowd, but Humperdinck tells her no. She goes anyway. When she is introduced, she walks directly into the crowd without any discussion.
The Sicilian, Vizzini lunges at Buttercup on her horse and pinches her neck causing her to lose conciousness. Vizzini nods at Fezzik, and he pinches her neck.
Fezzik tells Vizzini that he should kill Buttercup when she is laying in the boat. Fezzik is unaware of the plan to kill Buttercup until Vizzini mentions it.
Buttercup jumps in the water and Vizzini warns her that the sharks will get her. The are about to eat her, when they see her and Fezzik grabs her out of the water. There are Shrieking Eels in the water. Just as the eel is about to attack, Fezzik knocks it on the head and grabs Buttercup.
After they rescue Buttercup from the sharks they notice the Man in black behind them in his boat. They notice the man in black and while they are distracted, Buttercup jumps into the water.
When they reach the top of the cliff, Vizzini unties the rope from around an oak tree leaving the man in black 300 feet below on a rock. Vizzini cuts the rope with a knife and it is tied around a rock. It leaves the man in black only 50 feet below.
Vizzini doesn't want the man in black to see them with the Princess so he tells Inigo to kill the man in black once he reaches the top. Then he leaves. He believes the man in black has already seen them with the princess so he tells Inigo to wait and if he doesn't fall, to kill him with the sword. Inigo tells him he will use his left hand to make it interesting.
Fezzik is refered to as a Turk. Vizzini says he found Fezzik in Greenland.
Inigo cuts the man in black several times while they are dueling on top of the Cliffs of Insanity. The man in black is not cut by Inigo during their battle.
As the man in black scales the Cliffs of Insanity, Inigo looks to see if he has 6 fingers on his right hand. Inigo asks him if he has 6 fingers after he helps him to the top.
As Inigo waits on top of the cliff the story of his father and the six finger man is told. Inigo never discusses it with the man in black. Inigo recounts his story to the man in black after asking him about his fingers.
When the man in black duels Vizzini it is night time and they are under the full moon. It is daytime.
As the man in black approaches Vizzini and Buttercup, Vizzini pushes the knife into her neck and breaks the skin causing some blood to flow. He doesn't break the skin with the knife.
When Buttercup tells the man in black that she loved more deeply than he ever could he slaps her in the face for lying. He pulls back his hand but doesn't hit her.
Westley and Buttercup encounter "Snow Sand" in the Fire Swamp. Westley is prepared for it and has a coil of vine wrapped around his arm. When Buttercup falls in, he ties it around a rock and jumps in after her. After he gets her out she is unconcious for a short while before waking up. They call it "Lightning Sand". When Buttercup falls in, Westley grabs a nearby vine and cuts it with his sword. A ROUS watches and then leaves before they escape the sand. Buttercup is awake after they come out.
Westley is attacked by three R.O.U.S. He intentionally rolls onto a fire spurt and the flames scare the rodents away. He grabs his knife and throws it at one of the rats. The other two leave Westley alone and start to eat the dead rodent of unusual size. Westley is worried the blood from his wound will attract more rats, so he packs it with mud. A single R.O.U.S. attacks Westley. He wrestles with it. It starts to go after Buttercup and Westley grabs it from behind and they struggle. Westley is bitten on the shoulder and then he hears the popping noise indicating the fire spurt. He rolls the rat over and it catches fire. He stands up and stabs the rat a few times as it burns to make sure it is dead. Westley doesn't worry about his shoulder attracting more rats.
The Man in Black is distracted by Prince Humperdinck's armada firing its cannons in the distance when Buttercup pushes him into the ravine. He sees Humperdinck's horses in the distance when she pushes him.
Prince Humperdinck tells Westley to surrender after they leave the fire swamp. Westley refuses. He says, "No one is surrendering." After Humperdinck says surrender, Westley says, "You mean you wish to surrender to me? Very well, I accept."
After promising to save Westley, Humperdinck tells Count Rugen to put him in the fifth level of the Zoo of Death. He tells him to throw him in the pit of despair.
Westley is held in the fifth level of the Zoo of Death for over a month. He is tortured by the Count in many different ways including his hands being set on fire and covered in spiders, before the Machine is finished. He is held in the pit of despair for less time and the only torture is faces is from the Machine.
The Machine goes from 1 to 20 in levels of pain inflicted. It has many small suction cups that cover Westley's entire body, even under his eyelids and his tongue. It goes from 1 to 50. There are only a few cups that go on his temples chest and a few other places.
Inigo and Fezzik must fight their way through the 5 levels of the zoo of death before they reach Westley. They encounter snakes, bats and other creatures and are very frightened. They enter the chamber where they find Westley without any problems.
Miracle Max creates the miracle to bring Westley back from the dead, but it is only supposed to last for one hour. He makes a mistake and it is meant to keep him awake for only 40 minutes. After that he will almost certainly die again. He manages to avoid dying when facing Humperdinck. A real miracle. Max makes the pill to save him, but there is no mention of a time limit. He is revived and just takes time to fully come back to life.
Inigo chases the count and is locked out and asks Fezzik to help him break down the door. Fezzik takes three attempts before finally succeeding in breaking it down. He knocks the door open easily with one hand and on the first try.
After the four leave the castle on the four Great whites of the prince, they come upon the Brute squad and Yellin. They want to stop them, but Buttercup stands up and yells at them that she is the Queen and they need to go and save Humperdinck. They rush past and let the four leave. They ride off on the horses unimpeeded.
The story ends with their escape. Goldman says that Morgenstern indicated that they might not have made it because several things happened, but he left it open that they did. The grandfather ends the story and indicates that there is more kissing and the grandson won't want to hear it. But he does, so the story ends with Buttercup and Westley kissing.
Buttercup has three nightmares. In the first she marries Humperdink then wakes up, and in the other two she has children who die because they were not born to parents who love each other. Only the first nightmare happens.
Not In Book When Buttercup was going to attempt suicide, Westley said the Buttercup's breasts were perfect to ruin.
