Karl attacks Richard and runs off into the jungle. Karl stays.
the group with Richard's map are beaten and killed. They are not beaten, they are just shot.
The dead bodies of the surfers are brought by the Thai drug farmers to the Beach and left as a warning. Many of the Beach dwellers go crazy and tear the bodies to pieces. Richard sees the surfers being killed, but their bodies are not mutilated.
After Sal and others realize that Richard has given a map to others on the mainland, they go crazy and stab Richard. He is saved when Françoise, Étienne, Keaty and Jed return from the beach with fishing spears to drive the others off, wounding Sal and Bugs in the process. Sal is given an ultimatum by the Thai farmers that she must shoot Richard. She tries, but there is no bullet in the gun. Richard is not harmed.
Richard, Françoise, Étienne, Keaty and Jed all escape the island by taking the raft to the mainland. They leave the rest of the group in madness. After Sal attempts to shoot Richard, everyone loses faith in her and they all leave the island together and go their separate ways.
