Sal is given an ultimatum by the Thai farmers that she must shoot Richard. She tries, but there is no bullet in the gun. Richard is not harmed. |

Richard, Françoise, Étienne, Keaty and Jed all escape the island by taking the raft to the mainland. They leave the rest of the group in madness. |
After Sal attempts to shoot Richard, everyone loses faith in her and they all leave the island together and go their separate ways.
