This Spoils the Ending
In the Play In the Movie
The opening Song, "Science Fiction Double Feature" is sung by a female usherette character. The opening song is sung by pair of disembodied giant lips and during opening credits.
The characters of The Usherette and Magenta are played by the same actress. The Usherette doesn't exist in the movie.
The song "Over at the Frankenstein Place" has 3 verses, each sung solo first by Janet, then Brad, then Riff-Raff. The Song "Over at the Frankenstein Place" has 2 verses. Brad's verse isn't included.
Frank's appearance and his song "Sweet Transvestite" happen before "Time Warp." "Time Warp" is performed first before Frank's appearance and the his song "Sweet Transvestite." (Became the official stage version order from the 1990 revival and onward.)
The Transylvanians don't exist. There is a chorus of incidental characters known as the Transylvanians.
"Time Warp" is a more intimate song and dance performed only by characters Riff-Raff, Magenta, and Columbia. "Time Warp" is a larger production number having Riff-Raff, Magenta, and Columbia performing with a chorus of characters known as the Transylvanians.
The laboratory "slab" that Rocky is created on is a vintage Coca-Cola vending machine cooler. Rocky is created in an immersion tank in Frank's laboratory.
Rocky can speak and has dialogue as well as his songs. Rocky is mute and dumb and never speaks any lines although he sings.
Rocky's song "The Sword of Damocles" contains a verse in the middle performed by the Narrator. "The Sword of Damocles" verses are performed only by Rocky. The Narrator's (Criminologist's) verse was not included.
Original Lyrics of "The Charles Atlas Song" ("I Can Make You a Man") New and changed lyrics for "The Charles Atlas Song" ("I Can Make You a Man"). (This version became part of the stage version since the 1990 revival).
The character Magenta exists as a vampy presence in the house alongside her brother, Riff-Raff. Magenta was given more of a justification for her presence as a maid/domestic.
Eddie enters by jumping out of the Coca-Cola vending machine in the laboratory where he has been frozen. Eddie enters via motorcycle from a walk-in deep freezer in the laboratory.
The characters of Eddie and Dr. Scott are played by the same actor, reinforcing their nephew/uncle relationship. (Still traditionally done.) Eddie and Dr. Scott are played by different actors.
Brad has a solo song, "Once in a While." Not included.
Eddie's dismembered remains are taken out of the coke machine and put in the disposal by Magenta. There is no dinner scene. Parts of Eddie's remains are served and eaten at dinner while the rest of him is under the table.
In the song "Planet Schmanet Janet," the dialogue section is performed as an intro to the song. In the song "Planet Schmanet Janet," the dialogue section is done in the middle of the song between verses.
After Frank has trapped Janet, Brad, and Dr. Scott, he has them knocked out by Riff-Raff using an old-fashioned garden duster/bug sprayer. Instead of knocking out Columbia, it makes her very stoned. After Frank has trapped Janet, Brad, and Dr. Scott, he turns them into stone statues. Columbia is then also turned into a statue.
The Floor Show costumes have a slight gender distinction with the women wearing sequined bras and the men wearing corsets. There is no distinction between the men's and women's Floor Show costumes.
The full song "Superheroes" is performed. The first two verses of "Superheroes" is not included (in later official edits).
"Science Fiction Double Feature (Reprise)" is performed by The Usherette. "Science Fiction Double Feature (Reprise)" is heard during closing credits.
