In the Book |
In the Movie |
Andrew invents artificial organs and limbs which are marketed as medical replacements for humans who need them. Andrew uses these his inventions to replace his android body parts to become more human. He and his lawyers instigate lawsuits to define a person as a human no matter how many artificial parts they have. |
Andrew returns home after more than ten years and begins a physical relationship with the granddaughter of Little Miss. He continues to upgrade his body to appear more human. |
After living 150 years Andrew is celebrated and admired. He wants to be legally recognized as a human but is denied as his brain is artificial and very long lived. |
Andrew wants to be human so his union with Portia will be legally recognized.
|
Andrew convinces a robot surgeon to perform an operation to degrade his brain and make it die shortly after his 200th year. He dies shortly after being recognized as a real human due to his mortality. He last thought is of Little Miss. |
Rupert injects Andrew with blood to make him age. He grows old with Portia. The World congress declares him human and validates his marriage. He dies along with his wife when Portia orders the nurse to disconnect their life support. |
