In the Book In the Movie
Lydia and Chris know right away that Madame Doubtfire is their father in drag. At first they don't know it is him. It is only when Chris sees Mrs. Doubtfire standing up to pee that he has to come clean.
Daniel and Miranda are separated. They are together in the beginning, but after Daniel screws up again, they get divorced.
Daniel is an actor. He is a voice actor.
All the main characters, apart from Natalie, tend to act in self-interest and expect a large amount of credit whenever they do otherwise. This doesn't happen in the film.
Natalie is the first to find out in the novel. Natalie is the only child left out of the loop in the film.
