In the Book In the Movie
   Ron's leg is broken when Sirius, as the dog drags him by it. The dog grabs him by the arm, and his leg is broken when he tries to use the roots of the Willow to stay put.
   Ron tells Sirius that he will have to kill he and Hermione as well as Harry because they aren't going to allow it. Hermione says this to Sirius.
   Harry, Ron and Hermione jinx Snape all at once and he is knocked unconscious. Only Harry jinxes him.
   Snape is out cold when Lupin turns into a wolf. He wakes up and protects the three of them from Lupin.
   Hermione uses Alohomora to save Sirius. She uses Bombarda.

The origin of the Marauder's Map isn't really explained though. I watched the movie in the theater with my father who hadn't read the book, and I had to spend much of the car ride home explaining the backstory to him.

In the movie Harry does learn about the Marauder's map from Fred and George.
