Foundation Season 1 Book vs TV Show
In the Book |
In the TV Show |
Only the closest associates of Demerzel, including Dr. Seldon (eventually) know he is a robot. The Emperor and other officials do not know. Demerzel routinely manipulates the Imperial family and others to bring about a more stable Galaxy. Pushing Hari Seldon to create the science of pyschohistory is one of his attempted solutions for protecting humanity
Cleon knows that Demerzel is not human. She has served them for at least 400 years. She is programmed (or so the Emperor believes) to obey the Imperial dynasty. |
The book does not have details on the trip to Terminus. Hyperspace jumps are instantaneous, but it takes many jumps and weeks/months to arrive across the galaxy. Gaal Dornick initially set up the vault and ensured Dr. Seldon's recordings were ready to be viewed in the future.
Dr. Seldon's group of exiles arrives on Terminus 17 years after they left Trantor. They see the floating vault and have no idea what it is. People approaching the vault fall unconscious due to a null field around it.
Salvor Hardin is the mayor of Terminus. He opposes the Encyclopedists who are only concerned with gathering data for their encyclopedia to preserve knowledge and bring about a new Empire. Hardin wants to build a new empire directly.
Salvor Hardin is a child upon arrival and grows up to be the warden of Terminus. She sees that the null field around the vault is expanding. The null field hurts people who approach it, but it does not injure Hardin when she approaches it. She thinks it is waking up. The Encyclopedists claim they are saving the galaxy from a distant crisis, but Hardin says the crisis is on Terminus. |
Terminus is very technologically advanced, but militarily weak.
They live in little more than a tent city and primitive buildings made from the remains of their spaceship.
The First Foundationers know the Seldon Plan exists, but do not know the details. One of the postulates of the Plan is that the people subject to it do not know the future in detail.
The First Foundation people have a Prime Radiant, but do not know how to use or interpret it. |
