Eto Demerzel (Daneel Olivaw) was no longer working for the Emperor just prior to Hari Seldon's arrest and exile. Eto Demerzel is the emperor's majordomo.
Linge Chen and the Committee for Public Safety investigates Dr. Seldon who is known for predicting the end of the Empire. Chen eventually decides to exile his group of people to Terminus (as Seldon had planned) at the outer part of the galaxy instead of making them martyrs. No involvement by the Emperor. Seldon is brought before the Emperor where Seldon says the outer worlds are going to rebel. Gaal tells the Emperor that Seldon is the only hope to shorten the dark ages. Seldon says the fall can be slowed down by a few centuries by ending imperial cloning.
Dr. Seldon was known by the Emperor Cleon I for several decades prior to his exile and worked for him as first minister. The Emperor was murdered by a gardener prior to the events which lead to Dr. Seldon's exile. Seldon insults the Emperor by saying cloning is like the same old grape in the same old bottle.
Seldon's group of people exiled to Terminus numbered 98,572 people. Seldon died on Trantor of old age. All space travel is with hyperspace jump technology. The emperor allows Seldon to continue his work on Terminus in the outer worlds. Seldon and his people travel to Terminus without jump drive technology.
Raych Seldon died during a rebellion on another planet prior to the exile to Terminus. He had a family of his own and is not involved with Dornick. Raych joins Gaal on the trip to Terminus. They are in a romantic relationship. Gaal gets pregnant by Raych and has her fetus stored in a vault for protection from radiation during the trip to Terminus.
