In the movie, Dan Cody is the millionaire who is in trouble and Gatsby who just ran away from home saves him by sailing his boat away from the shore. Gatsby then sails with Dan Cody until he dies I think several years later or maybe it was a year later not sure about the time frame.

I just saw the movie, Gatsby is shot as he is climbing out of the pool not laying on an air mattress and he falls backwards into the pool. May 18, 2013

I'm not sure if the publisher of this even saw the movie, nearly half of the "differences" are incorrect. For starters it is indeed 5 years in the movie, not 8.

In the movie they later show that Jay has sunken to the bottom of his pool. Both of your comments are not all that relevant

The book : There was profanity written on the steps at the end of the novel. The movie: There was profanity written on a bench at the end of the movie
