   Hawkeye Pierce is a married man who enjoys fooling around with nurses. His hair is blond. Pierce is not married. He has brown hair. He is the Chief Surgeon with a specialty in thoracic surgery.
   McIntyre is the Chief Surgeon with a specialty in thoracic surgery. He is single and has brown hair. He has blond hair, is married and fools around with the nurses.
   A hidden microphone in Hot Lips' tent is used to hear her having sex with Burns. They are heard making baby type love talk to each other.
   Ho-Jon is drafted and Hawkeye gives him stimulants so he will fail the medical. Hawkeye gets Ho-Jon into his old college so he can avoid fighting.
   Duke Forrest from Georgia and John MacIntyre from New England are two different surgeons who are Hawkeye's friends in the Swamp. John MacIntyre is from the South and takes on the characteristics of Forrest as well; he is Hawkeye's only friend in the Swamp.
   Johnathan Hobson is a stern and religious bunkmate of Hawkeye's in the Swamp. He is replaced by Frank Burns. Frank Burns takes on the religious characteristics of Hobson and is Hawkeye's only enemy in the Swamp.
   Col. Blake pulls a little more authority; although he is lax on rules, the Swampmen make him feel like the boss when they are trying to get something from him. Col. Blake is a complete pushover who is easily manipulated by the Swampmen.
   Hawkeye and Forrest end their tour of duty and leave the 4077th on the same jeep they came in on. MacIntyre has not yet completed his tour so he stays. MacIntyre ends his tour of duty and leaves while Hawkeye is on vacation. Hawkeye does not leave until after the armistice via chopper.
   Hawkeye and Colonel Blake will use the slur "gook" on occasion to refer to Koreans. Hawkeye and Blake are both disgusted by racism and never use the word.
   Hawkeye frequents brothels when he is lonely. Hawkeye frequents the nurses' tents when he's lonely.
   Frank Burns is a Captain. Frank Burns is a Major and Hawkeye's superior.
   After the camp exposes her while taking a shower, Major Houlihan resigns her commission. This does not happen; Major Houlihan stays from the beginning of the series until the end of the war.
   Father Mulcahy is somewhat rough around the edges and is not afraid to curse or stand up to Hawkeye. Father Mulcahy acts innocent and fatherly.
   Hawkeye, like all the other surgeons, dislike the war and the ensuing casualties but do not protest against the war's cause. Hawkeye is a frequent critic of the war and why it is being fought.
   Col. Blake is a Regular Army doctor who has been in the service for a long time. Col. Blake was drafted.
   Radar is as mature as the other enlisted men. Radar is sweet, innocent, childlike, and naive.
   Col. Blake has been in the army for a long time. Col. Blake was drafted.
   Frank Burns is transferred out of the Swamp but still remains at the 4077th. Frank Burns stays in the Swamp until he leaves the 4077th.
