A purest forrest gump its what moves the movie, the book just doesnt have that, whenever i put an example of a better movie than the book this one comes to my mind. Hollywood almost every time blows it, but not on this one

I don't think the movie has aged particularly well for younger generations. Special effects? May have been revolutionary at the time but they're barely noticeable now. Masturbatory nostalgia and patriotism? Done purely to appease the Baby Boomer generation and pander for Oscars. Then-middle-aged audiences in the 90s fell for this type of stuff all the time--movies like this and shows like the Wonder Years which were little more than "Remember that?!" circle jerks. Baby Boomers go nuts for

The movie was a classic and from what I found out from the novel was just depressing. Tom hanks did an astounding job playing Forrest. I believe if they had followed movie exactly like the novel the movie would not have been as successful as it was.

People are saying that the book is better than the movie because the movie doesn't copy the book which I think is silly because the movie is still a great movie.

Many things work in books that don't work in movies. Had the movie stayed true to the book, we wouldn't be here talking about it. The movie would have been a flop or maybe just average. The movie is a classic. The book is not.

@muleheadjoe. You mixed two different ideas. A movie "based" on a book and a movie staying "true" to a book. Yes, it didn't stay true, but it certain was based on the book in many ways, shapes and forms.
