Peter is the one who meets with Lara Jean in the tree house to talk about why Gen is behaving badly. Gen admits to posting the hot tub video and harassing Lara Jean with screen shot posters at school. Gen has long been mad at Lara Jean for kissing Peter in the 7th grade. The two girls do not resolve their differences. Lara Jean sees Peter hugging Gen; she gets upset and breaks up with Peter during a school trip to an aquarium. Gen meets Lara Jean at the tree house. Gen says Peter is crazy about Lara Jean. Gen needs Peter's company because her parents are breaking up. Gen and Lara Jean bury the hatchet and stop being enemies.
Lara Jean wins the Assassin game. Lara Jean and Peter meet alone at the treehouse. Her wish is for Peter and her to go back to how things were when they were in love. They embrace and Lara Jean knows this is the night they become real. Lara Jean kisses John Ambrose at the nursing home party, but realizes she wants Peter back. Peter arrives to give Lara Jean a ride home after the dance at the nursing home. Lara Jean realizes that they will hurt each other even if they love each other.
