This Spoils the Ending
In the Book In the Movie
Jocelyn Fray was brought to an abandoned building while still in coma She was brought to the basement of The Institute. Without anyone knowing
Clary doesn't know she has a gift of drawing new runes She quickly learned and drew a rune to freeze demons and she also drew a rune that has the same effect of telekinesis.
Clary fought the demon in the apartment and shoved a sensor in it's mouth killing it Clary orchestrated a gas explosion and wasn't able to kill it, Jace suddenly arrived killing the demon with a seraph blade
Clary and Jace was picked up by a Silent Brother on a carriage glamored as a car from the Institute They went there on their own
When Clary went back to their apartment to pick up some of her stuff, the apartment was totally empty It was still full of their things and there was clutter everywhere.
The only Portals were in Dorthea's and Renwick's. The Portal was in the Institute and they didn't even go to or mention Renwick's.
Clary jumped through a Portal at Dorthea's and was transported to Luke's house. There they found Simon. They walked to Luke's house. The Portal is at the Institute, and Simon finds out about demons the same time Clary does.
Valentine comes up with the idea to tell Jace he is Clary's brother by himself and Hodge has no idea at all. Hodge knows and gives Valentine the idea to lie to them.
Valentine is unable to summon demons, he instead turns many mundanes into forsaken by marking them. Valentine can summon and control demons due to experiments with demon blood.
Valentine's manor is attacked by Luke's wolf pack and his forsaken army defend it. Valentine attacks the institute with a demon army and Luke's wolf pack defends it.
The history that Valentine and Luke have is explained. This was taken out of the movie.
Things such as the Accords, Valentine's group, how luke became a werewolf, were explained in depth. Their was not even an attempt to explain most things like the accords or Valentine's group.
Dorthea reads jaces tea leaves and tells him he will fall in love with the wrong person which reinforces Valentine's lie later on. If I remember correctly this isn't in the movie.
This was not in the book. Bach was a shadowhunter. And his music is unbearable...to demons : )
When revisiting Dorthea to get the Mortal cup out of the tarot card and Abandon possesses her Simon comes in and shoots out a skylight sending him back to his dimension. Abbadon was defeated in some other way.
Vale time succeeds in getting the mortal cup by the end of the story. In the end Clary's still has the cup and it is still in the tarro card.
Jace has no reaction when the ace of cups turns up. The first time Jace and Clary's are in Madame Dorthea's he exclaims that's the mortal cup and asks what's it doing here when the a.c. of cups card sticks to Clary's hand.
Zombies exist. When Jace and Clary's are talking outside JavaJones she asks about downworlders leading her to ask if werewolves and zombies are real. Jace says yes although zombies are generally found further south where the void in priests are. Clary's asks about mummies next to which jace replies of course not, no one believes in mummies. Zombies don't exist. Simon and Isabelle have a conversation in which he asks if he would run into any zombies and she said no they don't exist.
When they are at Magnus' party, Simon is turned into a rat from vampires, and Isabelle and Alec go back to the institute while Clary and Jace get Simon. Simon drinks the blue liquid and is ONLY captured by vampires, and Isabelle and Alec come with Jace and Clary to save Simon.
If you read the book, you know what Valentine looks like. THIS GUY IS THE OPPOSITE OF VALENTINE
At Magnus' party, He was wearing charcoal glitter eyeliner, blue painted lips, a T-shirt with buckles straps and colorful jeans. In the movie, he is wearing a blazer over a button up shirt and no pants whatsoever.
In the book, Jace tells Clary the Falcon story, in the third person, before the Greenhouse scene and Clary doesn't realize the boy in the story is Jace until after, of her own accord. In the movie, Jace tells Clary during the Greenhouse scene and in the first person.
In the book, Clary is 15 going on 16. In the movie, she is 17 going on 18.
The book begins with Clary and Simon waiting in line to get into Pandemonium. Clary randomly sees Pandemonium and suggests she and Simon go in.
Jace, Isabelle and Alec kill a demon in the storage room in Pandemonium. In the movie, it's out in the open, on the dancefloor.
The demon at pandemonium is described as wearing a red jacket, blue hair and green eyes. he wears all black and has a fauxhawk.
After leaving Pandemonium, Clary and Simon struggle to get a taxi. Simon catches a taxi on the first try.
The lines “Is this the part where you start tearing off strips of your shirt to bind my wounds?", "If you wanted me to rip my clothes off, you should have just asked.” happens in the Silent City. In the movie, It's in the Institute.
Clary's "dad" is said to have died before she was born. Clary says he died when she was two.
When Clary's mom is found, she is laying in a bed, with chains on her wrists with a IV attached to her. She is somehow floating with no explanation.
Simon turned into a rat He didn't
Simon was turned into a rat after drinking the blue drink at Magnus' party Simon was taken hostage by vampires to get the Mortal Cup from Clary
In the book, Valentine is beautiful and charismatic. He is also careful and calculating; everything he does has a reason. In the movie, Valentine is some brute with dreadlocks who is crazy and stabs random things with his bald. They couldn't have been more off.
Clary discovered she can make runes in City of Ashes Clary discovered it in the movie
the mortal cup is found and lost the mortal cup is found and kept
