   In the novel, Veruca has curly blonde hair with a bow on top, and wears a frilly pink and purple tutu dress with pink gloves and purple shoes. In the film, Veruca wears a pink dress with white tights and black Mary Janes. A pink change purse hangs askew around her waist. She has brown hair styled in oversized ringlets and pulled back with two hair clips.
   In the novel, Violet has curly red hair and wears a purple T-shirt and dark blue jeans. In the film, Violet has short blonde hair in a bowl cut/ bob hairstyle, and wears a light blue tracksuit and sneakers.
   We meet the Bucket family. Willy Wonka is seen making chocolate, and placing the five golden tickets in five Wonka Bars, which are then shipped across the world (with a darker, more foreboding theme.)
   Violet's father accompanies her to the factory. His occupation is never stated. Violet's father is not seen or mentioned. Violet's mother is likely a single parent; at one point she flirts with Wonka.
   Willie offers mugs of chocolate to Charlie and Grandpa Joe while in the boat when he notices how starved they look. Willie offers Charlie and Grandpa Joe a ladle full of chocolate. They share it.
   A Russian woman named Charlotte Russe claims to have the second Golden Ticket, but it turns out to be a forgery. In the film, Charlie overhears a conversation about the fifth Golden Ticket being found in Russia; a newspaper in a newsagent later reveals the fifth ticket as a forgery. The forger is never named.
   Veruca's father is a fat man with a moustache. In the film Veruca's father is a stereotypical rich old English man named Rupert.
   Willie Wonka declares Charlie to be the heir to his company. They board the glass elevator that bursts through the roof and flies to Charlies house. Willie wants Charlie to be the heir, but he must leave his family behind. Charlie refuses and leaves Willie behind. A short time later, Willie seeks Charlies help with his own family. He helps him reconcile with his father. Charlie then is set to inherit the company.
