In the Book In the Movie
The story takes place in realistic locations in Russia. Much of the story occurs inside an old theater.
There are two main protagonists, Anna Karenina and Konstantin Levin. Levin's love story with Kitty is featured as a contrast to Anna's with Vronsky. Levin appears but in a much reduced role.
Anna and Levin meet each other on one occasion. They only pass and do not actually meet.
After Kitty is rejected by Vronsky she is devastated. Her family takes her to a health spa in Germany to recover. Kitty is hurt, but we don't see the total devastation of spirit and she doesn't visit a spa.
After Anna meets Vronsky she is repulsed by her husband and has no further interest in him. The implication is that she still harbors feeling of love for her husband after she starts her affair.
