Anna feels indifferent toward her daughter. She doesn't love her as much as her first born son. After Anya is born she isn't seen most the most part. Anna's lack of love for her isn't mentioned.
The characters discuss societal issues like education, farm life, urban vs rural living, workers rights, religion and elections at length. This is not discussed.
The story doesn't end after Anna kills herself. It concludes with Levin's story. The story is basically over after Anna jumps in front of the train.
