This Spoils the Ending
In the Book In the Movie
The Vampires have no leader. Adam is the leader of the Vampires.
Vampires possess heightened strength and may kill other vampires. The vampires are given additional abilities (invisibility, for instance) and a weakness to silver, causing the climatic scenes to concern the aquisition of enough silver to defeat the vampires.
Abe sees the slaves as the life blood of the Vampires and becomes an Abolitionist in order to stop the flow of slave blood. Abe wants to end slavery because of his black friend from childhood, Johnson. He is warned by Sturgess to stick to the hunting plan.
Abe overhears his father and Barts talking about his father's debt and foreshadows his mother's death. Abe sees Barts biting his mother when she's sleeping.
Lincoln signs the Emancipation Proclamation as a way to starve the Vampires and helps turn the tide of the Civil War. Abe frees the slaves and that makes the Vampires go crazy and start attacking all humans.
