   The pirates all wore sandals. Some of the pirates had barefeet and stepped on broken glass set by the crew as a booby trap.
   While one of the pirates was urinating, Phillips ran past him and tried to escape. He pretended to urinate at the same time before attempting to get away.
   Phillips never planned to sacrifice himself for his crew. He told the pirates to shoot him if they had to instead of hurting his crew.
   This doesn't happen. Phillips keeps the news of kidnappings in the area a secret from his wife.
   The Alabama was in the middle of a "fire and boat" drill when the pirates first attacked. They were in a "pirate" drill when attacked.
