At the marriage ceremony, Mei Li says she cannot marry Sammy as she entered the country illegally and their contract is void. She refuses to complete the ceremony and tells Mrs. Fong that she cannot marry Sammy. Mrs. Fong refuses to let Mei Li marry her son and walks out. Later Sammy introduces Linda as his Chinese-American girlfriend; his mother approves of the match.
