In the Book In the Movie
A brief history of Driver's childhood is discussed. His father was a criminal who was killed by his unstable mother. We know nothing about his past.
This doesn't happen. Bernie and Nino want to help Driver become a stock car driver.
Irene and Standard are divorced. He is sleeping on her couch. They are still married.
Driver agrees to help Standard with a job because it is a job and Standard does it because he is a criminal. Standard is forced to do the job because of money he owes and he convices Driver to help him so he can get out of the crime world.
Driver is involved in two separate heists. The first is with Standard, and the second involves Bernie and Nino. There is only one heist that is a combination of the two in the novel.
After Standard is killed, Driver doesn't go looking for those who killed him. He does.
Irene is of Mexican heritage. She is white.
Shannon rolls his car and is killed. He is killed by Bernie.
Irena is killed halfway through the story. Irene survives.
